The Cook Political Report Confirms Kirkpatrick’s Momentum in AZ-1 Congressional Race
Prescott, AZ - Yesterday, the Cook Political Report confirmed that momentum is with Democratic frontrunner and former State Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick in her bid to represent Arizona's 1st Congressional District after the Report upgraded the race from "Toss Up" to "Lean Democrat."
Coming on the heels of the Arizona Republic's endorsement of Kirkpatrick, the Cook Political Report explained its decision to upgrade the race by highlighting the former state legislator's experience and strong record of service.
The Report noted that Kirkpatrick's focus on "bread-and-butter concerns such as education and the state budget" in the Arizona State House would make her a good representative for the district. In fact, the Report revealed that even "some Republicans privately concede that Kirkpatrick is a good fit for this district..."
The Report continued, "But the bottom line may be that Democrats got their top choice to run here and Republicans did not."
"This is just the latest sign that the campaign is gaining momentum," said Kirkpatrick Communications Director Zac Pentakas. "Voters across the district are ready for change and Ann's message is really resonating with them."
Just last week, the former state representative's momentum on the campaign trail prompted the Rothenberg Political Report to upgrade the race from "Toss Up" to "Toss Up/Tilt Democrat." Since then, Kirkpatrick won the endorsement of the Arizona Republic and launched her month long District-Wide Tour for Change to reach out to people across the district, which is approximately the size of the state of Illinois.
