Kirkpatrick Celebrates Native American Right to Vote Day
Prescott, AZ - Former State Representative Ann Kirkpatrick, the Democratic frontrunner in the race to represent Arizona's 1st Congressional District, issued a statement commemorating Native American Right to Vote Day on July 15th. Kirkpatrick, born and raised in the White Mountains, released the following statement:
"In light of recent challenges to the registration of voters living on tribal lands, Native American Right to Vote Day should be more than just a chance to applaud our progress," said Kirkpatrick. "There are still roadblocks being thrown up in the path of Native Americans trying to exercise one of the most fundamental rights in a democratic society."
"Throughout my career, I have been committed to ensuring that Native Americans have the best possible shot at a better life," continued Kirkpatrick. "The right to vote is a vital part of that process, and I will continue to champion native voting rights as a Member of Congress."
Kirkpatrick, who was born in the White Mountains and whose first words were in Apache, has been lauded throughout her career for her work on behalf of Native Americans. She fought to expand Arizona's telecommunications networks into tribal lands and sponsored bills to provide housing assistance to Navajo veterans as a member of the state legislature. Kirkpatrick has been endorsed by Peterson Zah, the first president of the Navajo Nation, and has won widespread support among the native community.
