FLAGSTAFF - State Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-Flagstaff), a lifelong resident of Arizona's first Congressional District, today announced her candidacy for the 1 st Congressional District.

"I am excited to bring Arizona's tradition of success to Washington. We need to restore integrity and dedicated representation to the people of the First District," said Kirkpatrick. "Corruption and dishonesty have plagued this district and have undermined our confidence in our federal government. The people of rural Arizona deserve to have a leader in Washington that they can trust. They deserve a person who embodies their home-grown, Arizona values. I am ready to be that person. I am excited to take Arizona's successes at the state legislature and make changes in Washington."

Prior to representing Northern Arizona at the state capitol, Kirkpatrick served as Coconino County's first female Deputy County Attorney, as well as City Attorney for the City of Sedona.

Kirkpatrick's resignation is effective today. In the State House of Representatives, Kirkpatrick represented Legislative District 2, which includes Flagstaff and the Havasupai, Hopi, Hualapai, Navajo, and San Juan Southern Piute Nations. She was also the ranking member on the House Ways and Means Committee, and served on the Education K-12 Committee as well as the Natural Resources Committee. "It has been an incredible honor to represent the people of Flagstaff and the tribal nations in the Arizona House of Representatives," said Kirkpatrick. "Being a part of the legislative process that molds this great state's future has been a privilege."
