Arizona Daily Sun: Navajo County joins special drug enforcement area

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) -- Navajo County will receive additional federal resources to fight drug trafficking after being added to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program.

Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick announced the decision by the Office of National Drug Control Policy on Monday. Kirkpatrick lobbied for Navajo County to join the eight other counties already in the program. She also has introduced legislation to get the other six Arizona counties added as well.

The Department of Homeland Security will supply high-tech equipment to the county to help it catch smugglers along drug trafficking lanes.
